The Denver Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation and the Denver Fire Department Foundation, in partnership with Burg Simpson, Philanthropy Experts, United Health Care, Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, and Nightingale Advantage, are pleased to announce the 2023 Denver Fire Scholarship Program. We will award eight $1,500 scholarships to qualifying students who are the children of an active or retired Denver firefighter. This scholarship program grows from our interest in giving back to the Denver Fire community.

SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

Eight scholarships of $1,500 will be awarded to eight selected finalists and can be used in any way to help pay the cost of tuition, fees, books, meal plans, or housing. An independent committee of members outside the fire service will decide. All essays are reviewed anonymously, and all identifying information is removed before reviewers receive them.

ELIGIBILITY

This competition is open to seniors in high school and older who are:

  • Currently in 12th grade and intend to enroll in an accredited 2 or 4-year technical college (trade school), college, or university OR a student currently enrolled as an undergraduate in an accredited 2 or 4-year technical college (trade school), college or university

  • Has a parent who is an active or retired member of the Denver Fire Department

  • Past applicants are encouraged to re-apply. However, past winners of this scholarship are not eligible.

  • Students will not be restricted to the number or value of scholarships from other sources to receive this award.

ESSAY TOPIC

The purpose of the essay is for the review committee to understand who you are, your goals for the future, and what motivates you. Entrants must write an original essay of 750 words answering the following topic.

“How has having a parent or step-parent in the fire service influenced your life plans and goals?”

ESSAY REQUIREMENTS

Essays must be original works. Any sources used must be properly cited and included in the Works Cited/ Bibliography. Essays cannot be more than 750 words. Citations and Bibliographies are not included in the word count.

SUBMISSION DETAILS

Application submissions for the 2022 scholarship contest will be accepted from May 15, 2023, to July 15, 2023.

Please submit your name, contact information (phone and email), name of the institution you will be attending, and the name of your DFD member/parent along with your essay to admin@DFFCF.com.

The contest deadline is midnight July 15, 2023. Any applications received after that date will not be considered.

SELECTION DETAILS

The award winners will be notified on or before July 24, 2023. All essays submitted become the property of the Denver Fire Department Foundation and Denver Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation.

An independent selection committee will select the winner. The committee's decisions are final.

By entering the scholarship competition, winners agree to allow the Denver Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation, the Denver Fire Department Foundation, Burg Simpson, Philanthropy Experts, Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, and United Health Care the right to publish the entrant’s name, photograph, images and other information (including general location) for publicity, promotion, and news (including use in broadcast media, printed publications, editorial and PR activities and online) about these scholarships.

This scholarship is awarded based on proof of registration sent to the Denver Fire Scholarship committee. Scholarship monies will be distributed by August 15, 2023.
